Our Dark And Depraved 1st YearOur first year was a tough one. After landing on a mysterious island with no means of contact, we were anything but calm. Being four scientists well trained in the field, we all knew that there was only one way out of this: to stay alive. We had never known the value of the Sun until now. Every second of daylight was important in getting our daily tasks done. Night came with a freezing bite in the air, forcing us into retreat into our battered down igloo. Our home was pathetic and by no means a work of art. Days became weeks and weeks became months. Lucky for us, we were on the outskirts of an island. Using our expert knowledge, we boiled the the salt water deriving salt. This allowed us to preserve the animals that we killed. Our drinking water came from ice located all around us that we boiled just to make sure. Food was a totally different story. It was easier said then done. We were forced to find plants that included Bearberry and Labrador Tea (as the name hints, provides tea) which provided nutrients. We were able to also pick out dead animals whose bodies littered the grounds if we got lucky. This was due to the cold weather, which made decomposition occur at slower rates. We used the stems of the diamond leaf willow to help start the fire which in turn allowed us to cook the animals. Of course, the method was not 100% foolproof and we experienced food poisoning along the way. Lucky for us, we were able to salvage items from our broken down plane(pots, floss, matches) because the freezing weather put the fire out. We then made use of these supplies in later years.
