Climate and WeatherThe Tundra is one of the earths most harsh and unforgiving biomes. In the winter the temperature can reach -50°F (-45.5°C). Also, while this may be surprising, the Tundra is one of the driest biomes on the planet. Rain is less than ten inches a year. It is a wonder that anything could survive here.
SeasonsThe winters are long and summers are short, lasting only 6-10 weeks. While summers are short, the days are long. Since the tundra is near the pole, the summer days often last up to 24 hours. While this is true, the longer days do not change much.
WindWind in the tundra is very strong. Without the wind buffering trees, the winds rage on endlessly. The fierce wind keeps the plants short and ground hugging. The storms are violent with winds reaching 130 kilometer per hour.
